It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
